Tutor-on-call package:

This package allows unlimited access to our video database and students may send their own, unique questions via WhatsApp to the MATHmechanic (to watch a video that may not ne accessible, the student simply has to ask for access). The WhatsApp facility to chat to the Mathmechanic will typically be available five days a week (Monday to Friday 14h00 – 17h00 or as stipulated) and Maths questions may be asked or help with the Baseline Tests may be requested. The questions will be answered using chats on WhatsApp, videos where required or making use of the etutor (YouTube broadcasts or Jitsi online classrooms). Regular practice tests are offered – The value of this service is R600pm. If the parent is prepared to enroll his/her child for a minimum period as indicated on the Debit Order mandate (the 15 Minutes Maths packages) the tutor-on-call package (as explained above) are available for any of the monthly discounted subscription packages as detailed. The applicant agrees to this as part of a financial incentive for the request for a subscription package.

Using the MathsBox resources

  • It remains the responsibility of the applicant and student(s) to make use of any products or services presented or made available by InternetLearningSolutions (Pty) Ltd. No promises of updates on use or non-use can be or are made. The Google form must be filled in every weekday by the student, and where possible reminders will be sent when a pattern of non-use is detected, but the point is stressed that it is the responsibility of the student(s) to make use of the 15 Minutes Math resources in the MathsBox and display the necessary discipline.
  • InternetLearningSolutions (Pty) Ltd cannot make any guarantees of academic performance. Success in Mathematics is similar to success in a marathon: with regular practise the body will get fitter, and better performance is almost a given. With Mathematics, when questions are asked and daily practice is part of the routine, success and better performance should also be almost a given. Mathematics, specifically, is not a learning subject, but a field in which development (practice) is necessary. The student(s) should be brain fit like athletes needs to be physically fit. This implies that it is not sufficient to try and learn skills shortly before tests and exams, and it is expected that a student will be busy with the material on offer on a regular basis (Jimmy’s 1% law).
  • InternetLearningSolutions (Pty) Ltd cannot make promises as to how quickly any questions will be answered, but all questions are welcome at all times and explanations will be offered as fast and as far possible. The applicant and/or student(s) undertake to understand this.
  • It is the recommendation of InternetLearningSolutions that students should stay busy with the online material even during holidays. The applicant and student(s) agree to understanding the importance thereof.

Conduct Rules and Agreement

In order for the MATHmechanic’s e-Learning to reach its full potential, it is important that the parent acknowledge and agree on the following:

  • Due to the nature of Mathematics, and specifically getting skilled in Mathematics, it is imperative that students interact with the MATHmechanic regularly. Without such regular interaction (asking of questions, watching of videos, doing tests) it cannot be hoped to achieve any measurable success.

  • Your child will have the WhatsApp platform 24/7 and questions will be answered as soon as possible. When a response on WhatsApp is not immediate it means that an immediate response is not possible, but we will respond as quickly as possible.
  • The baseline tests should be done randomly on a weekly basis, with focus on work that is not being done in class but what was covered before, also taking into account work from previous grades. These tests must be completed to 100% (full marks). Any attempt without achieving full marks means there are questions to be asked.

  • It is the responsibility of the child and parent to check in with the MATHmechanic regularly. Failing this will result in growth in results in Mathematics not being what it is supposed to or can be. The key words here are “regular”, and “ask lots of questions”.

The nature of questions:

We believe that the secret to success in Mathematics lies in learning to ask questions. We also believe that there are two types of questions:  Direct and Research.

Direct questions: This is where the student has a question for the Mathmechanic and poses it directly on the WhatsApp platform.

Research: The word “research” is just a fancy synonym for “asking questions”. When students are busy with their 15 minutes every day on our website they will be looking for questions or tests that they will feel will be difficult on their own in a test, and then attempt this question by using the videos as “research material”. Once a student understands this process of “asking” questions by simply looking at typical questions, and using the videos as a study-help, the progress will be measurable and visible.
